The Patient

Today John went into the GI doctor to get a procedure done. He has had the problem for years with food getting stuck in his esophagus. We call it choking but he can still breath. It is very uncomfortable and a big pain in the neck. He went to this GI doctor about 5 yrs ago and they did a esophagus dilation and it helped great. They say it is cause by his reflux and gradually get worse over time. His choking has really gotten bad over the last year so we decided to just go ahead and take care of it.

He went in at 9am and we left at 11am or so. He did great but is very sleepy. The doctor gave him some more medicine to control the reflux and told him to not wait so long next time. Sometime he is so stubborn and waits to long to take care of problems. But we are happy that he is healthy and now can eat.

My mom had a similar problem, but her esophagus was spasming and it was very dangerous. At one point, she was unable to eat or drink and ended up in the ICU. I was 16 and it was way scary for me to see my mom so sick.
Glad John is feeling better and the treatment is working.

I'm glad it all went well. Kaylyn has the same problem, but dilating doesn't help her anymore. She try's to be careful when she eats, slow small bites. It takes her forever to eat, but it is better than feeding her through a tube like we used to :) It's good to hear how you are all doing, we miss you guys!
